Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu organizes annually a special course for potential converts to Judaism, preparing them for the requirements of orthodox conversion.
The course is for Israeli citizens , non-citizens can only apply after one year in Israel , and must obtain permission from the Ministry of Interior.
Students live on the kibbutz and thereby experience on a day-to-day basis Jewish life and are given an
"adopted family" with
which to celebrate Shabbat and festivals. The students work in the various branches of the
kibbutz for half the day in order to support themselves and the second half of the day is taken
up by studies. Students who meet the requirements are converted by the special conversion
court of the Chief Rabbinate.
The studies are in Hebrew and comprise a basic look at Jewish life (halacha), history and belief. The course is recognized and sponsored by The Jewish Agency, The Education Ministry, The Aliya Ministry and The Chief Rabbinate. The Religious Kibbutz movement runs other courses at Kibbutz Ein Hanaziv, Saad and Yavne
WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE OPENING OF THE NEXT COURSE IN SEPTEMBER 2006
Applications are only accepted from residents of Israel, aged 18-35 and in good health.
